We are all in a post-hypnotic trance induced in early infancy.

(R. D. Laing)

I used to sleep on the floor next to the bed, because I believed that I didn't even deserve a bed to sleep in. And then, one morning, a cockroach crawled onto my leg. I looked at it, and suddenly I awoke from a kind of hypnotic trance in which I had been all my life.

(Byron Katie)

True inspiration overrides all fears. When you are inspired, you enter a trance state and can accomplish things that you may never have felt capable of doing.

(Bernie Siegel)

Trance is a natural everyday experience.

(Milton H. Erickson)[1]

Something to consider

Cognitive functioning when necessary.

  1. Erickson was a famous hypnotherapist who found innumerable ways of inducing therapeutic trance in his patients by using simple suggestions. Here is classic example from the excellent book, And my voice will go with you – The teaching tales of Milton H. Erickson by Sidney Rosen: 'And I want you to choose some time in the past when you were a very, very little girl. And my voice will go with you. And my voice will change into that of your parents, your neighbors, your friends, your schoolmates, your playmates, your teachers. And I want you to find yourself sitting in the school room, a little girl feeling happy about something, something that happened a long time ago, that you forgot a long time ago.'
